Among functional textile raw materials, polypropylene ultra-fine denier yarns have gradually become a common choice for sportswear and close-fitting garments due to their lightweight and moisture-wicking properties. The denier of this type of fiber is usually below 0.55 dtex, and the diameter of the single yarn is very small, resulting in a soft fabric texture and good draping properties.
The density of polypropylene ultra-fine denier yarn is approximately 0.91 g/cm, which is at a relatively low level among common textile fibers. This characteristic makes the fabric it produces lighter in weight, which can reduce the burden on the wearer when used in outdoor sports clothing. At the same time, the thermal conductivity rate of this fiber is low, and heat loss is relatively slow, which can provide a certain degree of warmth in cold environments.
The capillary effect is a notable feature of polypropylene ultra-fine denier yarns. The fibers themselves do not absorb moisture, but they can transport sweat from the skin surface to the outer fabric through the fine micro-grooves on the surface and quickly evaporate it. This function enables the fabric to remain relatively dry during intense exercise scenarios, and is often used to make running suits, yoga suits, cycling suits, and other types of clothing.
From a health perspective, polypropylene ultra-fine denier yarn does not absorb human sweat, and bacteria are less likely to breed and multiply on the surface of the fiber. At the same time, this type of fiber mostly adopts the direct dyeing process, where the pigment is incorporated into the polymer before the spinning process. The color fastness is good, and it is less likely to fade. It also avoids the problem of wastewater discharge in the traditional dyeing process.
The softening point of polypropylene ultra-fine denier yarn is approximately 140 - 160℃. During post-treatment processing, the setting temperature needs to be controlled to avoid affecting the fabric performance. Common specifications include 50D/72F, 75D/72F, 100D/96F, etc. It can also be interwoven with other fibers. For example, using polypropylene ultra-fine denier yarn as the inner layer and cotton or polyester as the outer layer to make a double-layer structure fabric, which can meet the requirements of both close-fitting dryness and a sleek appearance.
